Sometimes when we talk to ourselves, our comments are overly negative and hateful. We may dislike our hairstyle or feel that we’ve made a mistake at work. The problem is that unrelenting criticism leads to low self-esteem. Experts have said that it takes five positive comments to neutralize one negative one. So, the next time you do a project at work or at home, focus on the positive things that you’ve accomplished. For instance, rather than scold yourself for spilling paint, praise yourself for getting the paint cleaned up so quickly and thoroughly.
Take Yourself On A Date
Women are especially shy about going to a dinner or movie by themselves. Some feel that it makes them look desperate. Another interpretation, however, is that it makes them look confident and self-assured. The next time you get a taste for a special dinner or a movie that you want to see in the theaters, take yourself out on a date. You might feel uncomfortable the first few times you try it, but after a few fun-filled evenings you will come to enjoy this form of self affection.

To some people, a special treat is an expensive piece of jewelry or a new suit. You don’t have to break the bank though to get yourself a treat you will enjoy. Perhaps a book by your favorite author would do it. Other small treats that can give a big boost to your mood include a scented candle, a delicious candy bar, or even a trendy haircut.
Allow Yourself To Grow
Most of us grow and change in small ways every day, but we don’t do it mindfully. Mindfulness occurs when we know what we want and how we want to go about getting it. For instance, if you wanted to be a lawyer, you would need to find funding, be accepted to law school, study diligently, graduate, and pass the bar exam. Of course, all plans are not so ambitious, but it is always a good gift to yourself to live with an intention in mind and to take small steps toward that goal every day.
